Physician Medical Director for Expert Oversight
Our Medical Director has both a medical degree and has completed a certified hyperbaric training course. They review all our patient protocols and review all of our policies and procedures. This creates a dual review process that ensures excellent and comprehensive care for each patient.
Safety Director
Safety at Bay Area Hyperbarics is supervised by our dedicated Safety Director. He is a Certified Hyperbaric Technician, and also has special training and a Certification as a Hyperbaric Safety Director. Our Safety Director ensures that our staff meticulously follows required protocols for every treatment.
Highly Trained Technicians
Our technicians are not just experienced and trained in hyperbaric oxygen therapy—they are all trained Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). Though we are not required to provide staff with such training, we choose to do so. Their expertise in emergency medical care means that any potential issue is met with rapid, informed action. If an emergency were to occur, our EMTs know exactly what to do at all times. This level of training guarantees that patients receive immediate and professional assistance whenever it is needed.
Non-oxygen Atmosphere: A Safer Environment
One of the unique measures we implement is our approach to chamber atmosphere. Unlike many facilities that saturate the chambers with oxygen, we fill our chambers with medical grade air. Saturating the whole chamber with 100% oxygen makes for a very flammable environment, but produces no additional healing qualities. We feed 100% oxygen to patients through a mask, which gives the oxygen that the body needs to heal, while creating a safer and nonflammable chamber atmosphere. Some patients have asked whether this model follows typical standards. It does. The fact is that 90% of all research conducted on the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen therapy uses multi-place chambers filled with air, and they feed oxygen to patients via masks. Same with us.
Strict Chamber Protocols
Our commitment to safety extends to every detail of the patient experience. To maintain a contamination-free and hazard-free zone, patients are not allowed to bring personal items into the chamber. For every child and adult entering a chamber, we always check to ensure they did not accidentally bring something into the chamber that could cause problems. This policy eliminates potential sources of ignition or danger, ensuring that nothing compromises the integrity of the hyperbaric environment.
Additionally, we require that all patients wear cotton clothing during their sessions. Cotton is a natural, breathable fabric that minimizes static buildup and reduces the risk of sparks—an essential precaution in any pressurized environment. These measures collectively contribute to a safer and more controlled treatment experience.
Rigorous Emergency Procedures Over the Years
We take emergency preparedness very seriously. Every procedure in our facility is designed with patient safety in mind, and we adhere strictly to established emergency protocols. From routine checks on our equipment to full-scale emergency drills, our team is consistently prepared to manage any situation with confidence and precision. This dedication to emergency readiness ensures that our patients are in safe hands at every moment of their treatment.
At Bay Area Hyperbarics, every aspect of our operation is designed to protect and support our patients. We have provided over 95,000 treatments over our 26 years in operation. During this time, we have never encountered an emergency in our chambers, because we always ensure patient safety before, during and after every treatment.
